TLRJN is pleased to announce the Speaker Series on the Legal Geographies of Occupation and Racial Extraction that will explore the intersection of law, colonialism, and racial extraction across different global contexts. This series will feature scholars, activists, practitioners, and faculty members who examine how legal frameworks sustain systems of occupation and resource extraction, from the Palestinian apartheid in Israel, to settler colonialism in Hawaii, to the exploitative practices of mining corporations in Africa. By addressing these global struggles, the series will shed light on the ways in which legal structures, as a tool of statecraft and as a mechanism of racial control, perpetuate and legitimize the ongoing processes of racial extraction, occupation, environmental degradation, and dispossession and subjugation of Indigenous and racialized peoples.
