Our Mandate

The Transnational Law and Racial Justice Network (TLRJN) is a research and action hub located at the University of Windsor Faculty of Law, that explores the intersections between race, law, migration, and global justice. Rooted in critical, anti-colonial, and anti-racist traditions, our network brings together scholars, students, practitioners, and community partners who are engaged in challenging the ways law operates as a tool of racialized control, dispossession, displacement, and inequality both within and across borders.

Through research collaborations, public events, advocacy, and curriculum development, TLRJN aims to foster solidarities across movements, communities, and geographies. We are especially committed to centering the voices and knowledges of Black, Indigenous, Palestinian, and other racialized communities whose legal and political struggles illuminate the limits and the possibilities of law and justice.

TLRJN recognizes that the University of Windsor sits on the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. We call for truth and reconciliation with all Indigenous communities across Turtle Island.

People

TLRJN is comprised of Windsor Law faculty, students and staff.  The TLRJN Director is appointed for two years to guide our activities.  The TLRJN Board sets strategic directions. Windsor Law faculty affiliates collaborate on projects and offer suggestions on global issues in the spirit of solidarity. TLRJN student fellows are actively involved in all aspects of TLRJN’s work from website development to litigation, the creation of public education tools and working directly with community based organizations. We are grateful for the support provided by Windsor Law staff. Through our activities, we have established a growing global network of scholars who share our approach to teaching, pedagogy and research.
